Take a day trip from Paris to Mont St. Michel. This mountainous island has a medieval village built upon it and is crowned by an abbey that was dedicated to Saint Michael, the archangel. A UNESCO World Heritage site, this charming village is well preserved to look just as it did in the Middle Ages.
After meeting your guide at Cafe de la Terrasse, hop in a minibus for the journey west to Mont St. Michel. During the drive, your guide shares stories and legends about this amazing jewel of France. Once you're at the village, you have free time to explore both the medieval town and the abbey on a hill.
Inside the monastery, you can wear a headset that is an audio-guide of the beautifully constructed building. Learn about the construction of this beautifully designed church and about famous events that have occurred here.
Back outside in the village, wander down the streets that rise and fall with the hills. If you're so inclined, stop in at a local cafe for a bite to eat or a warm cup of coffee or tea. Then, meet back up with your guide for the return journey to Paris.
