Route Overview
Many favour the Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. However the short time frame of the route makes altitude acclimatisation fairly difficult. This route has a low summit rate of about 50% for the shorter 5days itinerary that excludes the acclimatisation day. The longer itinerary that takes 6 days including the extra day for acclimatisation has a success rate of about 80% to 90%, which is impressive. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the Southeast. The route is the only route to offer Hut accommodation where clients sleeps in an arrangement likely to dormitory arrangements and it is the oldest and modest route, it is the only route that offers Wi-Fi internet while in the Huts.
Climbing Kilimanjaro offers Marangu as on 6days climb or 5days private climb. The five day variation does not have an acclimatisation day on day three at Horombo Hut.
