This full day tour provides you with a chance to be immersed in nature. Joining this tour, you will enjoy a boat trip along one of the largest man-made lakes in South East Asia, Nam Ngum Lake which is about 80 km to the north of Vientiane. In addition, you will visit local villages and the ruins of Mon-Khmer era from the 8-11th century.
This full day tour takes you to some destinations. The time in each destination can be flexible as your request as long as it doesn’t affect the whole plan.
At the departure time, you will be greeted and picked up at your hotel’s lobby in Vientiane by an English speaking guide and a driver. Then, you will be driven to Nam Ngum Dam.
On the way there, you will stop at a Hmong village and pay a visit to a local market. Here, you will have a chance to observe the daily activities of the local. In addition, you can see and interact with local people with the help of the guide. Don’t hesitate to chat with them. You may get a lot of interesting information about their life.
Leaving the village, you continue driving to the next destination of the tour, the Buddhist archaeological site of Vang Xang which was built during the Hmong-Khmer Empire between the 8th and 11th century. Here, you will see 5 statues of Buddha standing on a former elephant cemetery.
At lunchtime, you will reach the Nam Ngum Reservoir. You will have lunch at a boat restaurant on the lake.
After lunch and a short rest, you will embark for a boat ride to visit fishing villages situated on the islands. This journey will take you about 1.5 hours.
On the way back to Vientiane, you will pay another visit to a traditional salt abstraction site at Ban Keun. The last spot of the tour is Dong Mark Khai Market where local people sell wild animals and various kinds of insect. You will absolutely enjoy this interesting place.
You return your hotel in the late afternoon. The tour ends around 6.00pm.
