Embark on a tour that takes you from the Red Rocks of Sedona to the deep ravines of the Grand Canyon. With the help of your expert guide, you learn about ancient legends of the native people and about how the Grand Canyon was formed. Bring a camera to snap photos of sights that leave you breathless.
Start off with a scenic and historic ride from the Red Rocks of Sedona, through Oak Creek Canyon, and the towering ponderosa pines of Flagstaff. Then stroll among the dormant volcanoes and pristine lava fields at Sunset Crater National Monument.
Next, you visit Wupatki National Monument. This well-preserved ruin site of the Sinagua Indian trading village was inhabited when the eruption at Sunset Crater took place. Learn all about the Anasazi (Ancient Ones) and the Sinagua (People Without Water) and find out what really happened to the people once thought to have mysteriously disappeared.
Then, make your way across the Navajo reservation and the western portion of the Painted Desert, stopping at the Historic Trading Post in Cameron. Here, you can shop for authentic souvenirs and enjoy a tasty lunch at the restaurant.
After departing the Trading Post, head to Grand Canyon National Park via a scenic drive along the Little Colorado River Gorge. Upon entering the park, you get your first views of the Grand Canyon at Desert View Overlook. From this vantage point, gaze across the Grand Canyon to the North Rim, look down at the Colorado River nearly a mile below you, and get a glimpse of Navajo Mountain in Page, Arizona, over 90 miles (145 km) away.
Then, you travel between the South and East Rims of the Grand Canyon, stopping at scenic and historical viewpoints. Make sure you climb to the top of the Watchtower Observatory for a completely different view of the canyon.
Stretch your legs before the return journey with a leisurely walk along the South Rim where you can take in the breadth of the Grand Canyon as you gaze 14 miles (22.5 km) across to the North Rim. One last stop allows you time to pick up a souvenir, grab a snack for the road, and to visit the historical buildings of Grand Canyon Village before returning to Sedona.
