Overview

Welcome to a grand urban pleasure garden; home to the largest stand of old-growth oak trees on Earth. These magnificent Southern Live Oaks, dripping with Spanish moss, are silent witnesses to over 700 years of natural history and local culture.

We will explore a mesmerising landscape brimming with wildlife, picturesque bayous, secluded fountains, romantic stories, Neo-Classical and Art-Deco architecture, WPA-era gardens and bridges, Enrique Alferez sculpture, and “flying horses.” City Park represents the heart and soul of New Orleans. Join me as we celebrate the successful relationship between nature’s splendour and humanity’s creative achievements.

The tour is ready whenever you are and the audio plays automatically at exactly the right time and place using your smartphone's GPS and the VoiceMap mobile app, which also works offline.

Activity itinerary

New Orleans Museum of Art (Pass by)
The New Orleans Museum of Art houses a collection of over 40,000 objects including works by Picasso, Matisse, Monet, Pollock, Renoir, as well as Edgar Degas who lived in New Orleans for a short time. The architecture gives the impression of a Greek temple, slightly modified, suggesting a more subtropical appearance with the inclusion of a Spanish tile roof.
New Orleans Botanical Gardens (Pass by)
The New Orleans Botanical Garden is the first classical garden in New Orleans. It was funded by the Works Progress Administration.
New Orleans City Park (Pass by)
There are over 30,000 mature trees in City Park, including live oak, bald cypress, magnolia, slash pine, maple, crepe myrtle, palm, and pecan. Although the park lost more than 2,000 trees during Hurricane Katrina, over 5,000 replacements have been planted.
