Lovely place, loved the Doyle. The only thing is I booked with Expedia and my friend book with the Doyle and I was charged more for my room on October 2nd. They paid 170 and I paid 220, so a little miffed but the stay was nice.

The Quirk used to be top-notch, but it has really gone downhill since being taken over by the Doyle. It is weirdly empty and soulless now with nobody at the front desk, nobody at the bar, nobody in the restaurant, and the lovely gift shop ripped out. The beautiful lobby is freezing cold and completely uninviting. The Doyle branding has been carelessly slapped over the stylish original details. The virtual code check-in is a disaster -- my code inexplicably stopped working on day 3, they couldn't help me via text, and there were no human beings around to let me into my room. Fortunately a friendly housekeeper took pity on me. This used to be one of my favorite hotels but I really can't recommend it any longer. What a shame!

Original room had wet carpet and mildew smell, had to wait 1.5 hrs for a new room (from a premier to a standard room) and no one came to talk with us or tell us what was going on. After an hour, I finally got a text telling me the room was ready, but we had to go up to the new room 5 times and back to front desk because the access code wasn't working. Finally, the new front desk person let us in. But they didn't correct the access code issue for hours after that. At 5:30am, my husband and I were awoken by the alarm in the room (that hadn't been reset when the room was flipped). When we requested a later check out given all of the issues (which we could only do by the app), we were denied. When I texted the random person texting me about the hotel access code, they also said they couldn't give a later check out. This was my husband and my 11th anniversary and our first overnight without both of little kids in over two years. We still had a lovely time in Charlottesville, but will not be returning to The Doyle. It's clear they still have many kinks to work out since they took over The Quirk.

Hotel was nice, suite was huge, cool deck, good location, decent price. Never saw or interacted with any staff, everything done on the phone. Easy walk to restaurants. Parking lot is a few blocked away and a bit sketchy.
