This is my third stay at the Asian Plaza Hotel, in the last four years and each time I have found it to be a pleasant stay. There is no doubt the hotel and the rooms are dated, however, it has a certain ambience about it and there is an excellent view from the 14th floor where the restaurant is located.
Without a doubt, this hotel's greatest asset is their staff from the security man outside, the bellboy's, front desk Staff and the maids. They all try very hard to please and are pleasant to deal with notwithstanding the slight language barrier.
I have always stayed in the old section of the hotel being the front part which allows you a much better view. The rooms are large, fairly basic and do the job quite well. There is television, air-conditioning and excellent Wi-Fi, in fact, the Wi-Fi is so good it is better than my Optus cable broadband Wi-Fi in Sydney Australia. When I first came to Burma in 2012 stayed at this hotel the Wi-Fi was almost non-existent and it was dial-up speed, my how things can change so quickly, which is definitely what is happening in Burma.
Do yourself a favour and get to Burma as quick as you can as changes happening at a rapid pace and I will briefly explain on the negative side. Unfortunately, the Western influence is creeping into Burma, with advertising everywhere on their trains and platforms. KFC if you like it is now there are also think Pizza Hut may be there. There is also a large Lamborghini dealership, unbelievable! Go there soon!!
