One good, one bad
Good:
Sent a lovely note and gift for our anniversary
Bad:
Shelagh on night reception has a poor attitude - the room keycards did not work repeatedly and she seemed to want an apology from me as she said the hotel keycard had been deactivated by being next to my mobile phone in my pocket!
The room was incredibly noisy. On the second night of our stay we did not sleep due to the fire alarm going off and the staff members not knowing how to turn off the alarm at 3.00am. This disrupted our night and the next day of our trip. This resulted in myself and my partner not being able to settle and none of the hotel staff were there to reassure us. The key card to the main reception and our room continuously stopped working, therefore we had to keep going to reception to resolve this. We were allocated a room on the top floor and for the duration of our stay the lift in the hotel did not work, despite being told it was being fixed the day we arrived.

Overall good place to stay. It’s close to public transport. My only concern is the lightning in the room is a bit dark and hurt my eyes. There will be a few stairs if your room is located at the other end of the hall way (further side from the lift). Room is warm and bed is comfy.

Clean, easy place to walk throughout the city from.
perfect location, very friendly and helpful staff. This hotel is tucked away in the west end, walking distance to almost everything, many restaurants to choose from and the airport bus stops right in front of the hotel. They do not have onsite laundry but the staff were very helpful in locating a local laundromat. They also no longer offer breakfast, but lots of good choices close by. For the price and the location, this hotel met all our needs
Quite poor accessibility as the lift was out of service. Nice staff and offered to help us with our bags but life out of service made the rooms highly inaccessible.
The room was very clean and tidy - and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately there seemed to be a nightclub somewhere below and the bass reverberated through the walls until about 3am so I didn't get much sleep. For this reason I wouldn't go back.
It’s a step up from a hostel because you have an ensuite and your own room. It’s noisy and very basic, but reasonably clean. Staff was great. Great area, easy to get to from train stations and airport.
Hotel is situated in good location near edinburgh castle and at the rim of shopping street. However, the building is quite old and the hotel room is dated. Toilet is super run down. Housekeeping tries their best to make a room clean however given room condition there is little they can do to make the room comfortable. Don't trust the photo. They try to decorate the room to be modern and etc. but it's just old cold shabby room in dated building.
I got an e-mail a few days before stay that the elevator is broken and offer luggage delivery to room. When I check in, no offer was made. As my luggage is relatively small, I carry it myself. Elevator seems like in major repair and will take time - definitely not just broken a few days before I arrive. Beware if you plan to stay here this month.
PS. check in counter offers great hospitality.
The best thing about this hotel was definetly the location - walking distance to all atractions, restaurants and all the Edimburgh has to offer. Staff were also very friendly and helpful. The rooms need desperately to be updated along with a deepcleaning of carpets and the bathroom. There was smell of mold in the room and in the hallways the entire 3rd floor smelled bad as well. Also the bathtub drain was very bad and took way too long to get the water down. Finally the elevator wasn't working.
The staff were truly excellent. Had a small baby with us and they kindly moved us to a quieter room without us asking and set up a cot for us. Couldn't ask for better service
