The location was ok, close to the Metro Centre & other shopping options. The room was a bit tired looking and SO hot, the options are having the heater on or off, theres no thermostat to adjust the room temperature. The bed was a double which was rather cosy! Probably my fault for not checking that on booking. Breakfast is included, it was ok. The hash browns were a bit soggy & the bacon was underwhelming. Staff at breakfast seemed more intent on loudly discussing their lives in the kitchen than being attentive to the guests. You can buy some drinks & snacks but they dont take cash & charge a preminum - £2.95 for a 500ml bottle of pop felt too much.

The thing that impressed us most was the fact that the 'continental breakfast' was in fact a full breakfast. My husband was able to fill his plate with bacon, egg etc and there was a great selection of pastries, toast, fruit etc. We were really pleased.

The rooms say they had double beds, but they're actually three-quarter doubles (still technically a kind of double I suppose) and for two people it's awfully cramped.

Pleasant stay

1st time in Holiday Inn Express - would recommend the Gateshead one was very pleasant- only complaint is the toilet flush needs adjusting as took alot of effort to push button
