The Newcastle staff were so great. Jessica checked us in and took the time to recommend a museum and show us how to get there on the map. Anna very cheerfully stored our bags for us while waiting for the train. Everyone so friendly. Hotel is a big worm but very clean and the spa/pool excellent (we went both in the evening and next morning!). Pleased to find we’d been upgraded and the room was about big enough for a herd of bison. All great value for money and we loved our stay.

A lovely stay

The superior room was huge Obviously the building is,175 years old so is a little tired but beautiful. It is clean and the staff are so pleasant and, welcoming. The breakfast was amazing, hot and freshly cooked. The only negative i would say is the leisure centre which could do with updating in the changng rooms. Also a little dangerous having to walk up and down wet stairs between pool and changimg rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

We had travelled down by train and wanted to freshen up on arrival. when we got into room dirty towel hanging on back of bathroom door hook. One bath towel and hand only left on bed for the three of us. Over an hour of waiting for room.

Built in the 1850s, this hotel is an excellent choice for enthusiasts of the Victorian era. I stayed in a standard room, which, while lacking any particularly special features, was perfectly functional and well-maintained. The receptionist at check-in was exceptionally welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The English breakfast buffet in the morning was superb, offering a delightful selection of traditional fare. However, the options for those preferring a continental breakfast were somewhat limited. The leisure and spa facilities are truly impressive. In addition to a well-equipped gym, guests can enjoy a small yet inviting swimming pool, a dry sauna, and a steam room. Overall, a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars.

Lovely stay overall. I booked a single room but got upgraded to a double one. The room is dated but had everything you need plus a bathtub which was amazing after a working day! Newcastle sightseeing spots are in walking distance there is a 10 mins walk to a shopping centre. Amazing if you’re travelling by train as the train station is juts next door. There is no noise in the room at all though. Highly recommending!

Very noisy, doors repeatedly slamming at midnight and noisy guests until 3am. It’s a convenient location but there are lots of hotels within 5 minutes walk. I canceled my second night and booked into the Copthorne.

A once Grand hotel, now very run down. Times may be tough but at least they could replce all the lightbulbs. You get the impression Management is just plain mean, and the staff struggle on the resources they are given. They also havent had a decent designed in the place for generations. Could be so much better without drastic expenditure

Pay on arrival - not!

Due to the nature of my work I occasionally need to cancel or change dates so select a cancellable room with pay on arrival. The hotel placed a charge on my credit card some six hours before the cancellation deadline which is not acceptable for a pay on arrival arrangement. As it happened I was able to use the room as booked but wouldn’t have trusted an establishment that does this to reimburse should I have cancelled before the deadline.
