For the price, the accommodation was spacious and all amenities were functional. Neat and quiet neighbourhood. Walking distance to most administrative offices and community services. Best of all, a genuine host/ loving host and owner. She offered support and help as at when needed. l would recommend the Villa Shalom Guest House to any traveller to Port of Spain on a tight budget and who needs home feeling while away from home.

Quaint and authentic
I loved my trip and wished I could have stayed longer. Trinidad there’s so much to see. The Villa Shalom was a great stay for me and I made a new friend in Ms. Cordner. She’s a dynamo!!!
For the budget traveler, you can't get a better place. Ann Marie is a lovely woman and a thoughtful hostess. It's not the Ritz, so don't expect fancy. It's more like a comfy hostel. Located downtown Port of Spain near the Queen's Park Savannah.

Disliked: Room comfort
Guest house which is 30 min walk from the downtown
Taxists know this place well. 2 stories building. Big kitchen combined with living room.
Very friendly hotel owner. My stay was for two days and arrived without my luggage, but the hotel owner provided me all the assistance I needed. I could have taken a taxi to my business, but she accompanied and showed me an easy walk passing through Queen Park Savannah and some picturesque building. I love walking so I enjoyed that very much. The hotel went over and above what I expected making my two nights most comfortable.
Very nice accommodations. I enjoyed my privacy, the rooms are spacious and the hostess provides for your every whim. Great conversations. I shall come again!
My first time here in Trinidad coming from LA for a Zumba business trip and my trip was amazing! The host Ann Marie was a very hospitable lady and very friendly! The room was everything I needed and more! Very spacious, very relaxing, and definitely feels very much like home. I will definitely be back to stay here for my next visits and maybe for Carnival!!! Thank you Ann Marie! =)
Sister Anne Marie goes above and beyond in providing everything with generosity.. I get the best she has available. The breakfast is lavish. The place is clean and safe. My friend and myself walked the Queens Park Savannah late at night without any interference. I had a great time. I'll be back for my fourth stay soon.
villa shalom was a very nice guest house, the neighborhood is safe, the house and ms Annemarie where wonderful she was full of information about how to get around , the guest house is walking distant to store the savanna were the Trinidad food is wonderful, when booking do not expect the Hilton this house is real Trinidadian guest house, i loved it, the taxi guy Brian was also wonderful,
I was so well received it was like coming home. Ann is a fantastic person, incredibly hospitable and helpful. When I needed food she even walked me to the local market place (at night) which I would have never found on my own. She is just a wonderful, kind and loving person. She is very astute and well informed about everything. A challenging conversationalist with a congenial attitude. A rare commodity in these days. I would not stay anywhere else. You cannot get this experience with someone else, Trust me. I travel ALOT!
The owner went on a massive racist, anti-(specific) religion, and homophobic rant without knowing my background or beliefs. It was totally inappropriate and alarming to think there are still these people out there in society, let alone that wotif is allowing these people to list their guesthouse on their website. The owner even shared that when she gets a reservation from a foreign name that is not Anglican that she contacts immigration for fear of Isis so that she can avoid taking their booking.
We found the owner to be intrusive. Further, locals later told us that this is a very unsafe part of Port of Spain. We would not recommend this guesthouse.
Ann Marie was an amazing host! She told me stories, showed me around town, and made me an authentic Trinidad breakfast in the morning. I felt very welcome and very comfortable in her home. I'll definitely stay with her the next time I'm in Port of Spain

Villa Shalom - Great Price, Great Location
Security is a top priority for the owner, Ms. Cordner. I felt safe inside this facility.
She was very welcoming and promptly provided all requested amenities, e.g. blow dryer. She also voluntarily gave me a 30% discount on the apartment rate when I had to extend my stay for 2 nights, and a complimentary tasty local breakfast that reflected the true flavor of Trinidad cuisine. (Thanks for the coconut bake and saltfish). :-)
She also provided the driver, Brian for pickup from the airport and more drivers like Ian and Leroy throughout my stay. I was promptly picked up and dropped off safely each day. So, I did not have to do any walking to get a taxi into "town."
The location is close to my Buddhist Nichiren Shoshu Temple (84 Picton St., Port of Spain) where I was able to worship each morning at 6:30 a.m. and chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for World Peace and Happiness for all Mankind.
It is also close to all government buildings, the U.S. Embassy, courthouses, Port of Spain General Hospital, Queen's Park Savannah and retail stores on Frederick Street. I would stay there again, especially for the great rates and close proximity to the "heart of town."

Trinitime
The weather was comfortable with occasional rain showers.I believe the rain season in Trinidad is from June to December. The food is always great as are the people.
I stayed at Villa Shalom for one week in November. I called ahead to make arrangements for check-in and talked to the owner. She gave me good directions for the taxi. Even though she wasn't going to be at the property at the time I was going to arrive, she made arrangements with another person to check me in. The room and attached bathroom at the upper level was compact but clean and nice. The communal kitchen at the lower level was spacious and clean. The owner lived at or very near the property, and used the kitchen for her own cooking as well. She was like a mother and provided good information about how to get around the city, what to be careful of and how much to pay for what. Local maps and information was available for reference. She can also give a good account of the local history if interested.
The guesthouse is located in a middle class residential neighborhood and is a 10-15 minute walk to the Savannah. To get to downtown Port of Spain, one can either take a shared taxi a block away or walk 30-40 minutes like I did when I didn't have bags to carry. There are small convenience stores close by among the houses but no real places to eat until one gets to the Savannah or beyond.
I was most impressed by how efficiently the owner ran the place; she was on top of everything whether it was the gate lock or internet access. And she always answered her phone which was nice if one needed help with something. If I were to visit Trinidad again, I'd definitely stay there again

Good value, centrally located, and the owner is very nice and attentive.
The guest house is conveniently located within 10 minutes of Savannah Park. I strongly recommend it. Perks: wifi, great host, convenient location, clean and safe area.
