Good value for money. We had room with queen and a bunker for three of us. Also had a kitchenette within. Bathroom/Toilet was shared with one other room. Was very tidy, the best pillows n linen. Very centrally located. Would definitely stay again.
We booked an en-suite unit for our 1 night stay. On first glance it appears OK and adequate for the price we paid, we did not expect hotel status, but did expect better than we received. What they fail to tell you is that these rooms are right near the kitchen and since the doors do not seal you have the smell of cooking in your room till quite late with or without the windows open (we tried both). You also have a large beam of light that comes in under the door all night long . The sheets, although appeared to be washed had moldy stains on them, the towels again clean were all falling to bits. They advertise breakfast as part of the stay, what they do not tell you is that rather than have the food available in the kitchen, you must go down the stairs with your plates or bowls to reception and get some then go back to cook/eat it. We chose not to use this service. We have stayed in this type of accommodation elsewhere for similar prices and the difference is huge. We would not be going back or recommending it to others.
Hostel was relatively easy to get to with ample parking for cars. Also close to everything you need to do and about 30-40 minutes walk to the closest attractions. Kitchen is great and offers outside balcony dining and a great view of Taupo! Staff is super friendly and helpful. Complimentary cereal, bread, and jams for breakfast. Eggs are for sale in the reception area at $.50 NZD per egg.
Laundry facility is in the back. I really liked my stay here for the price.

No hot water issue
Tiki lodge was ok. The problem came in when they had no hot water on our second day. We understand issues come up. However when it couldn’t be fixed they should have given us a refund so we could stay somewhere else. All we were offered was to go and shower at another hostel or move to the other hostel. Problem was we paid for the king ensuite so we would have private accommodation. It included breakfast and a tv in the room. We moved to the other hostel and received a double bed that sagged in the middle, shared bathroom, and no breakfast. If there was not a hot water issue, we could have given a great review but the handling of the situation was not done well and the downgrade without any compensation seems quite unfair. So no we can’t recomm as a result
Staff was super helpful and kind, and the general area was relatively spacious and clean. But the rooms were not very comfortable. But if you're looking for somewhere cheap to crash it's not a bad option.
I had a fantastic stay in Tiki (to short). Hotel is clean and they offer free breakfast, tea and coffee. And you can buy eggs for 50p, which is nice when you only need 2 instead of buying 6 at the supermarket.
The only negative point: the walls are a bit thin. But people was not too noisy. So I managed to sleep without any issue.
