To be honest is this one of the worst arbitrages between quality and price I have experienced for a hotel. A bit of a sleeping factory, small rooms with 90s interior, soft beds, terrible pillows, the smell when you enter the room reminds you of walking in to a hotel room in the US 20 years ago (strong perfume to hide the smell of the floor carpets). I really don't want to be a bore but I simply can't understand how this hotel can continue to operate in this price range. It has to be one of the most profitable hotels in the world as long as it lasts...

Location is walkable but there’s no taxis around the area unless you uber-ed for one & there’s no bedroom slippers in the room . In room dining is small .

Great location; room condition not great
Pros: great location of hotel; pleasant staff and good service; good directions to room; room recently renovated. Cons: 4th floor room reeked of smoke & burnt rubber (gross); room was cold (in November) / air comes in through window; drain in sink broken, wouldn't drain properly; shower had 2 shampoos but no body wash--body wash by sink but bolted to wall (had to get out of shower to get body wash).

This was our second time at the Strand Palace. The service is great & The staff friendly. The only issues we had was we were trapped in a lift for a short while but this was rectified.

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times and have always accepted that it is not the best but it is convenient and well located. However after my latest experience I will never stay again. The hotel was noisy and the hot water tap dispensed cold water after a short burst of hot water which is not great. But, the most worrying aspect of our stay was the fire alarm which was triggered and which led to a full evacuation of the hotel. These things happen and it is better to be safe than sorry so full credit to the hotel for this. However had there been a real fire there would have been a major problem - I saw no staff either inside or outside the hotel & I did not hear any instructions being given. We were descending from the 6th floor and as we departed we ground to a halt at the 4th floor as people were flooding on to the corridors on from the lower floors causing a bottleneck & a log jam of people. Thankfully everyone remained calm as I do not believe anyone believed there really was a fire. If there had been then it is likely that there would have been a real issue as some people were becoming aggitated and in an emergency I think there would have been a real risk especially to older people and young children. The people on the higher floors would definitely have been at a disadvantage and in my opinion at greater risk. I have no idea what triggered the fire alarm as no-one took the time to explain what had happened or even apologise. Needless to say we will not be back.
