A bit basic
Room was unclean on arrival. Door required a special manoeuvre to unlock which was a real fire risk as the room windows don’t open. We reported both to reception, but were greeted by a shrug of the soldiers and some story about renewing the cleaning contract at the end of the season. Breakfast was cold meat and cheese with watered down orange juice and just the one toaster. Some staff were helpful but others weren’t. Whilst offering fishing, the staff didn’t know how to obtain the 2 Euro per day licence they insisted you bought. On a positive note, the view over the lake was stunning and the terrace a great place to eat meals. Hire of boats, canoes and SUPs was easy and it’s location on the lake shore is the main attraction of this hotel. The venue appears to be the main bar for the very few locals, so if you like Finnish folk music you are in for a karaoke treat on Saturday and Sunday nights. The hotel appears to be a one night stop over for Russians travelling west, so I doubt there are many reviews to compare. We were visiting family that couldn’t accommodate us in Lappeenranta; it served a purpose and was a fully functional hotel, but we won’t be using it again. Next time we will worry less bout the price and consider comfort more.
