Wonderful

A very unique venue combining original architecture with modern features which made it more interesting than your average hotel. You can take a short walk around the hotel to see all the different buildings and plaques to show what they were used for.
Staff were friendly and the hot breakfast was excellent if a little expensive.
Cons - the room was quite dingy (no big surprise in a converted prison however a few more lights would've been ideal). There was also a little bit of damp and mould in the windows which could've done with cleaning. The floor was extremely creaky and therefore we could hear a lot of noise from the room above. However I can imagine in a building of this type it's difficult to maintain/improve things.
Cell room was a great experience, however other half mentioned that the lighting could have been better for applying makeup etc. Couple of switches that didn't seem to control everything, but overall I would visit again, Staff were fantastic, and defiantly would go again.
Not the fault of the people who work there, but I found staying in a former prison to be deeply unpleasant, particularly one where they still have numerous iron bars, gates etc.
Great stay, the staff were very informative, breakfast was lovely.

Liked: Staff & service, room comfort
Was a cool nice building. Unfortunately seems a little dated in the rooms, and not completely clean, plenty of dust and dirty glasses wouldn’t expect that from a ~£200 per night hotel.
We were drawn to this hotel because of the obviously very cool and unique setting. The rooms were spacious enough for the price we paid, the bath was a great addition and the shower had good water pressure.
Unfortunately we found the bed to be very firm and uncomfortable. My fiance and I both struggled to get to sleep, and woke up with aches and pains. Considering the price point of the room for one night, it was one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds we've experienced.
Also even though it was a king size mattress, the mattress actually goes underneath the headboard a way, so if you're tall you may find the bed to be too short.
We did mention at checkout how uncomfortable we found the bed and were told that they'd pass the information on, but of course we've no idea if it'll be actioned.
A great one night stay. We were given a free upgrade. Room and bathroom very nice. Upgraded room wasn't in 'the prison' though so lacked the charm of the older part of the hotel. Staff very pleasant. A bit of an issue with breakfast: everyone's food took a long time to arrive. Restaurant manager refunded everyone's breakfast bill without having to be asked.
