Convenient for walking around Old San Juan. Staff is nice and helpful. Hotel is tired and some parts are closed. Needs a lot of updating and a good cleaning.

The hotel is in front of the cathedral of San Juan Bautista. It maintains its antiquity being a previous convent at the same time providing modern comforts. One can walk almost everywhere. I recommend the restaurant in the hotel. The food is good. You’ll find the amenities provided by a four star hotel. The staff are very nice and professional.

The property is nice and located in a great area but this is not a luxury hotel or experience at all. We were given a room on the top floor and the elevator was broken the whole time we were there. We also had to carry our own suitcases up the stairs. Lastly, part of why I booked this hotel was because it had a gym but it was not air conditioned and there were no wipes to wipe down equipment. Even when I asked for them, they were never brought down which is disgusting. I wouldn’t stay there again.

Great location and lovely historic building
Location was perfect and renovation of this lovely historic building (was a convent years ago) in to a hotel was nicely done. Room was spacious and comfortable with a great view out over the church square.

The staff was very friendly and responsive when we made requests. The hotel is located in a very convenient location and the best part of the Viejo San Juan. The beds and pillows are comfortable and the room is well suited for a good night sleep. Josantonio the office manager was excellent and provided incredible service!

The bed sheet is in very wet condition, and the floor next to our room begins construction from early morning which makes huge noice. The sleeping experience is poor.

Staying at El Convento in the Old San Juan area was definitely the best decision we could have made for our short trip in the Island. If you want to experience the historic and beautiful Old San Juan vibe, I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. This hotel is absolutely perfect for couples as it is a very romantic and appealing property. The rooms are very well kept while maintaining the charm of the historic building. Because of our short trip, we did not get to try any of the dining options, however, these looked great. Some of our favorite aspects of our stay was our Superior Queen Deluxe Room, rooftop view and pool and complimentary coffee and water for guests every morning. They also have complimentary wine&cheese tastings every evening. The property is a great location to walk around Old San Juan’s iconic landmarks. We did not have to walk more than 12 minutes to get to everything. Of note, Uber is the main method of transportation for outside the Old SJ area (quick Uber to the beach) recommended as the historic city does not have as much parking space. Be aware that the hotel is a great location for weddings and other events. Because of the building layout, you will probably be able to hear the music if there are events going on in the hotel. Despite of this being noticeable for us, it did not impair our ability to sleep and relax but it’s worth noting.
