A great place in the center of Solvang Downtown and literally across the street from the central park. Didn't discover it was an "invisible" front desk until after I booked. Was cool with that myself but could see how a less the tech savvy person would have a challenge. Also didn't realize that the pool and Jacuzzi was located at a sister site 1/4 mile down the road that we had access too but is inconvenient to utilize. The room locking system was NOT clearly defined. In our experience the room door always locks behind you when an automated lock is involved. Not this setup and we didn't realize that until the last day into our stay. Lucky for us...no one entered our unlocked room. My suggestion is that they have signage on the door stating that the door needs to be locked as you exit using the code also. The locking mechanism is actually one for a residential home. It's not that its bad... But better communication about how the door works would have been nice. I don't want to sound too negative. The place was pretty awesomely located and we didn't get back in the car for 2 days after arrival. The room was great with very minor nuisances like a slow shower drain. But my wife was able to relax and enjoy all of Solvang as if we lived their.

Winston was one of the nicest hotels we’ve stayed at. The room was large, beautifully decorated, immaculate and a huge bathroom. The hotel was self service which was something new to us but the front desk at the sister hotel gave us all the info we needed to find our room and let ourselves in our room. The town of Solvang was so cute and walkable.

We had a great time. The room and amenities were great. The only thing we would have liked is a dresser to put our clothes in and more hangers, we literally kept things in our suitcases for the two days, which was a a big deal, but it would have been nice to have somewhere to put our clothes. It would have felt more like home. Otherwise, it was awesome! So clean and well decorated. I loved that we were right in the middle of all the shopping and dining, we were within walking distance of everything. We will definitely be back.

Centrally located, this property is within walking distance of anything you could need. There's no staff onsite beyond the folks who clean the rooms, which was not an issue. However, there was a problem with the hot water at the sink (hot water in shower was fine...) We dealt with it but let the property know upon checkout. We had an additional night scheduled 3 days later when we passed through Solvang on our return home. We were given an upgraded room with a free bottle of wine as a much appreciated gesture. Highly recommend this property for the customer service alone, but the rooms are unique, roomy (especially the upgrade!) and clean. Will definitely return.

Great concept, not so great execution. Loud pressure washer cleaning hotel garage going for over 3 hours leaving mud and water in the hotel parking lot. Difficulty checking in and staff on phone couldn't hear me over the noise of the pressure washer. Was told by Thor, assistant manager, noise would stop at 4pm, then 4:30pm, then pressure washing company boss was going to make him stop, then he'd stop by 5pm, Finally we left, walked thru the water and mud to our car, and went to dinner @ 6;30. he was still pressure washing and machine was right by our room. We were in Solvang for our 50th anniversary and thought we'd try a new hotel concept. Overall, not the best experience. It sounds almost unbelievable, but the pictures prove it

The Winston was a great place! The room was immaculate and was centrally located in town. Everything was no more than a 5 to 10 minute walk. The staff, although they are not present, were very accessible through text. They respond within minutes for any concerns you may have. I highly recommend the Winston and would happily stay there again in the future.

Our 2nd stay in as many years. Winston is great for large rooms, convenient location and parking, pet friendly, and bright, eclectic decor borrowed from Kit Kemp Designs at the very upscale Firmdale Hotels in London and NY. But this is an old converted wood frame structure with a few negatives: Room 12 is right over Fitzpatrick bar and morning deliveries of idling diesel trucks are annoying. Doors and windows are far from soundproof in fact the light wind blew the sheer drapes inside with the doors locked. Water pressure is abysmal - I get the water saving needed in this dry area, but it was challenging to rinse the soap off with so little water - the stream was “droopy”. No staff - virtual digital check in which was fine; friendly text exchanges. Honor bar and in-room Nespresso machine is nice but a little skimpy on the coffee creamers provided. A dressing mirror would have been nice - and there is plenty of room - we both had to get ready for a wedding in front of the one bathroom mirror over the sink. I would say Winston is a great concept and thoughtfully executed, but a little more TLC and attention to details above is called for. But, with only a cleaner - no front desk, no manager on site, it feels like “out of sight, out of mind” might be a factor.
