Know it’s Grade II listed but in need of an update. Carpets on stairs and hallways are dirty, threadbare and smells of damp. Room 6 had the windows painted shut resulting in the room feeling like a sweat-box

It was ok
Hotel is pretty old wonky floors ect no problem I like this it’s character . lady who sign us in very nice. The hotel it self is run down not because it’s old really could do with some loving. Like a new bathroom. The toilet has been broken and Glue back together. And the single bed was very uncomfortable. I thought I was having a room with a double and two singles this was not the case. The room is a good size with kettle ect. No hair dryer. It was ok for a night stay. Simple little things like when leaving the next day the reception was closed I didn’t see where to leave the room key there is a bowl by the door you would think it have a post box near reception or be told where to leave the key.

Good for 3
Comfortable stay, glad for parking.
Shower was creaky, but did the job.
Let’s start with the bed! Worse nights sleep I’ve ever had. Four poster was not only uncomfortable it felt like it was about to fall apart, ever time you moved it made a noise & moved. Bathroom wasn’t very clean with a broken window ( though they did offer us a different room when we notified them but at this point it was just the window in the bathroom ) once we got back to the room in the evening we couldn’t open any windows & the shower wouldn’t turn off we couldn’t raise this with anyone as there wasn’t any staff on at all.
The hotel was completely empty as were the only guests unfortunately staff was rude and didn't care our room was dirty pillows was horrible to sleep with and my partner and I have a stiff neck now there were cobwebs in the room
Excellent location and a beautiful historic building, just a little black mould in the shower in the bathroom that was a little off putting but otherwise fantastic.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The hotel was cold and unfriendly. We are both elderly and had a room in the top of the hotel up very steep stairs when we were clearly the only guests in the hotel. The fact that there was no evening meal was not indicated when we booked on line. We finished up having sandwiches from Tescos.
The room was very cold and not warm and welcoming.

Good Evening
Easy check in
Bathroom tired
4 poster lovely but creaky
Room clean and tidy
Staff helpful
Stayed for business. Arrived just after 3pm and the room was freezing. I asked for the heating to be turned on but was told it doesnt come on till after 5. Thought breakfast was included but in fact they no longer do hot breakfast. I was offered a continental for an extra £13 which I declined. In the room is the old menu which included hot breakfast for £12.50! No evening meals as they no longer have a chef so I went out to eat. The bed was uncomfortable, wallpaper peeling off the wall in the hallway. Stair carpet threadbare.
No hairdryer. Generally poor care to customer service. Very disappointed it could be a nice hotel but I will not be staying again.
Old, but clean and tidy .everything you need in the room except a hair dryer .

Bank house hotel
The lady on reception was very warm, welcoming and extremely friendly. The onsite parking was easily accessible and perfect with plenty of spaces. Room came with a nice amount of tea and coffee supplies and towels. Backing up other reviews, the hotel is old and very outdated. Our room had cobwebs in it and half of one of the windows was missing for some reason. There was also an annoying buzzing sound from outside of the window from either a generator or fan or something which kept me up during the middle of the night for a few hours. We paid £50 so you get what you pay for. Nothing extravagant but serves its purpose.
Lovely old building. Floors are unsteady but what do you expect for a house that’s over 250 years old!! Beds very comfy and rooms lovely temperature. Staff very helpful and kind
Thread bare carpets, communal stairs filthy.
2 Pubic hairs found in the bed. No mattress or pillow protectors. Hairs and bum fluff on the back of the toilet seat.
Black around the seal I'm the shower.
Generally very dusty and run down.
Very cold at night.
When asked for £12.50 is the breakfast was good? I was met with... "well... Its a breakfast!" Glad I gave it a miss... Dread to think what the cleanliness of the kitchen would be. £68 for that room was not good at all.
Only positive was there was tea and coffee making facilities with custard creams.
A comfortable clean room. Creaky floorboards due to the age of the house bit this made it feel very authentic.Friendly owner. There was no breakfast on Mondays but that was no problem as we were going to see our son in Oakamore

What a wonderful 250 year old building with great character. Rooms & bathrooms need refurbishment. The staff are friendly and in particular, Mary, whom could not have been more kind, caring and assistive. Thankyou again Mary.
We stayed for 2 nights. Once we arrived we were told there was no breakfast Monday but there would be Tuesday. This was disappointing as it says on the website that breakfast is available for an extra charge and nothing about not being available on a Monday. Instead we popped over to the local Wetherspoon and had a day out at Alton towers. The following morning at 8am we heard drilling and banging and inbetween this we could hear men singing and chatting to each other. As we woke up and sat up in bed there you could see the shadows of the workmen walking along the scaffolding which was outside our room. I thought oh well they cant see through these thick curtains and we are leaving in couple of hours. I then get up to go to the toilet which has very little cover. No curtains just a thin bit of cloth. See the photos. I couldn’t even use the toilet so I got the sheet from the bed and put it up at the window so I could. There was no way I could take a shower. I have complained to hotels.com and the hotel have said there was no workmen there and I guess my word against there’s. I will be taking this further. I don’t find this acceptable of having no privacy in a hotel bathroom
The arrival and the greeting were great, very friendly to begin with! The hotel itself is quaint. Its whats to be expected of a 1777 preserved building, i enjoyed the creaky floors and the rustic feel. I dont feel like it ever claims to be something its not. Bed is somewhat comfy minus the bed bugs to which my partner now resembles a polkodot bikini. Its value for money thats what im trying to say and is perfectly located for local culture.
The only annoying things are: the heat is immense so the only way to cool down is have the window open. At the risk of having the church bell next door waking you up every 15 minutes 24 hours a day, and the risk of a complaint from the neighbours/other residents who seem to spend a lot of time curtain twitching. But dont expect the staff to back you up on that, the attitude dates back to that of the hotel it would seem and you will be left feeling told off like a school child and belittled in the corridor to the point they tell you upon leaving they called the police on you but the police refused to attend someone doing something private, in the privacy of your own space.
