The hotel and the staff were terrific. The building is clean and tastefully decorated and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. However, one evening the entire restaurant and bar were booked for an event and guests at the hotel were not notified in advance. While there are options in nearby International Falls, it seems notification would have been appropriate. Lastly, the hotel sits next to a rail line that is the busiest port of entry in the US. There are more than 20 trains every day now that pass the hotel both day and night; some of them are two miles long. A 2015 report noted the crossing was blocked on average 8 of 24 hours. I timed one that took 14 minutes to clear the road out of town. While ear plugs and white noise allowed for uninterrupted sleep (the trains cannot blow their horns), be aware that you may have unanticipated delays. With all of that in mind, I still like this hotel and distillery and will stay again the next time I visit.

Just a top notch stay. We enjoyed the room, the dining and cocktail options were superb and even got to take a distillery tour with Robert. Some people complained about the train, but I guarantee the train was there long before the hotel and it is kind of nostalgic. I wish they were closer to home so we could stay here again. Highly recommend!!

We’ve stayed here twice now and have really enjoyed our experience! They do tours of the distillery but they weren’t doing a tour the day we were there, but that’s okay just means we get to go back😉

Was so much more than i anticipated! Just a hidden gem in an otherwise unremarkable area. It is close to RR tracks but it didn’t bother us at all. We ate at the restaurant and food was very good. We walked to water and around area. Band on patio next door was good and sunset over Rainy Lake is always fantastic on a clear evening. Will definitely return when in the area!

Didn't like the unprofessional gal that was at the desk during my check out. Teach them how to interact with customers instead of letting them just stand there waiting for a head nod or acknowledgment that they exist. Improve on this as I have seen other reviews with dissatisfactory staff issues. Also, if someone is coming down the hallway, maybe the maid staff could move their cart as a courtesy. Again, issue with who you are hiring as staff to represent the impression of your hotel.

This was such a gem to find in such a beautiful town. The food and bar inside the hotel is great and serve whiskey and gin distilled onsite!

Very unique hotel. The active train depot across the street did up the level of noise, but in a good way since it brought back sounds of my childhood. The room had a tub with a curtain instead of a shower. Regular showers were available down the hall. No microwave in the room, but there was a common use microwave in the common area which then also had coffee in the morning. It was nice not having the microwave in the room so we didn't have to suffer the smell of heated food well past consumption. The food in the restaurant is delicious and the drinks were wonderful especially as they were made of the products of the onsite distillery. There is also a yoga studio with free weights and cork mats provided. The roof top had chairs and a wonderful view of the lake one block away.
