This is a first class hotel. Very nice if small rooms. The staff were very helpful. Dinning was very good. Parking was available and included Tesla electric car charging (one of two stations working). Located across the street from University and easy walking distance to major sites and museums.

We had been to the Gonville hotel many times before; our go-to hotel in Cambridge. We were surprised and disappointed that the service and cleanliness were much poorer than previous visits. There were food crumbs and a plaster in the lift the whole time we were there, so not checked or cleaned. Breakfast choices were far less than previous trips. The continental breakfast items had clearly been out a long time with no cover. Items were not replenished, so basics like bread and jam ran out. Lots of staff but no one taking responsibility for replenishing items! There were no teaspoons on the tables. When asked, a staff member said they were short of them! Not difficult to go to a shop and buy a few more is it?! The main restaurant only serves Peruvian food - we had booked, looking forward to it but after perusing the menu, with little choice, we left and went elsewhere. We would expect a variety of different kinds of dishes at such a hotel restaurant! This may seem trivial, but they add up and we were disappointed, having brought my mother in law for a weekend treat and being embarrassed that it wasn’t any where as good as before. I would expect more from an expensive 4-star hotel! We found out the hotel had recently changed hands so that explained it! Now part of a chain of 4 hotels. Bring back the previous management! We won’t be back.

I was really surprised to receive a call from the hotel prior to my visit. (Never had this before.) And I didn't appreciate the upselling techniques used by staff. Did I want to book dinner in the hotel? Did I want to book breakfast? Did I want to book a ride in the vintage Bentley??? I was asked twice during check-in if I wanted to book breakfast... No! I booked room only. The room itself was lovely, very modern and stylish. A shame that we paid for a superior room and then had machinery/equipment that was noisy all night. And even more disappointing that staff came across as indifferent. I'm not interested in being told that the matter will be reported to maintenance. I would have preferred not to have had an issue in the first place. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The staff was very pleasant and the room was quite comfortable. Breakfast was very filling and we ate on the terrace for dinner. All quite lovely. Easy walking to restaurants and shopping.

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff.
Very friendly but professional staff throughout the hotel, especially at reception. We had 2 rooms, one of which could do with painting the bathroom door and providing it with a door stop (it kept opening wide into the bathroom, blocking the toilet). Room facilities were excellent (fridge, water, coffee machine, biscuits and a box of tissues). Breakfast was amazing, so much choice and delicious food. The hotel is located in the perfect spot for walking to places.
