"Like home away from home. The staff were absolutely SUPERB - VERY special care. We had a booking misunderstanding over our senior 11-lb. dog, necessitating a room switch. Jenique and Nelson checked on little old Henry while we were out (cool enough to leave him comfortably in the car). Their restaurant "Parterre" was open primarily weekends, so we did not partake, but menu looked special. It was a quick walk to Perly's fabulous Jewish fare and other restaurants ranging from thick sandwiches to pricey, delicious seafood. FRIENDLIEST people I have ever encountered are in Richmond; strangers offer greetings! The ART district is a short, safe walk from the hotel - museums, galleries, restaurants; so much to visit. The facility is historic, and, in all honesty, the premises show some age, especially the lounge. However, main-house rooms are high-ceilinged and lovely, with THE most comfortable beds, and bath facilities are thoroughly modern and spotless. The inner garden courtyard is soothing for an evening bottle of wine. Very quiet; the many guests we saw were very respectable. Also, A HUGE PLUS is that the bus system is clean, comprehensive and FREE. I greatly prefer this homey accommodation over the nearby impersonal Hilton, Marriott, and others. Staff made this a return-to-again-and-again location. Both the feeling of the historic building and the extraordinary warmth of all staff left us sad to leave."
