A uniquely rural property with outstanding views of the sea and beach. We stayed here in what was considered to be early season (April) and the property although open was on restricted hours for restaurant,(only open Friday to Monday for dinner and no breakfast).
The nearest shop for groceries or supplies is Port Clement,(great shop, has beer, wines and spirits but not open on a Sunday), otherwise the Co-op in Masset, a 2 hour round trip, with no alcohol available.
Restaurants listed as close by were either closed or on restricted opening, most were Thursday to Sunday or Monday, one (Blacktail in Djaaling Gidds),
was open Wednesday but only to 9.00pm and was very good and very busy!.
That said, Haida Gwaii is a stunningly beautiful place to visit. Good asphalt roads to the main areas of population but it is a long drive to anywhere from anywhere and it is not at all subject to any high grade tourist infrastructure.
Car hire companies charge by the kilometre as well as hire cost. Get your own insurance for car rental.
So pleased we made the considerable effort to visit this island inspired by the BBC Race across the World series. Be prepared though for the acceptance that services may not be available even in a hotel, so ask prior to booking, especially if early or late season.
Also the Skidegate/Alliford ferry is $44.20 for 2 adults and standard car. Pay only at Skidegate.
In season watch out for Horse flys and no-see-ums!
