We stayed during the Music Fest and found the area close enough to walk back and forth and to other amenities, and quiet enough to get a decent sleep. The coffee shop starts up early and was a bit clangy in the morning.
The restaurant was loud downstairs but only until 8:30 ish. Other than that bedroom was dark, big bathtub, clean! Not enough coffee supplies (sugar, coffee mate) but still amazing room!
It was a very odd stay. Check in isn't at the main Sportsman's Inn building, it's at the bar of the restaurant next door. I had no interaction with actual accommodation staff, just a lady behind the bar who had me sign a paper and gave me my room key. The key went in a lockbox when I left in the morning.
My room wasn't in in the main building, it was in the white building behind Mugs coffee shop. I don't think any of the photos from the website are from this building - or at least of the room I was in. There was so much damage that I took photos in case they tried to claim it was me. Gouges on the walls, stained carpet, a visibly janky dresser drawer. There was a fair amount of mildew around the windows, which I assume is why the heat was cranked.
The room setup was weird too - the bed faced the door and the TV was between the bed and the bathroom, with a chair in the corner that didn't really face the TV.
The noise transfer from the upstairs suite was ... a lot/ Super creaky floors and I could hear them talking. Thankfully I sleep with earplugs.
If booking at the Sportsman I'd ask to stay in the other building as it looked newer. I stayed my second night at the Black Bear Lodge. It was double the price but a lot cleaner and nicer - and had a generator so there was power while the rest of Port McNeill, aside from the IGA, was down.
Definitely get what you pay for!
Stayed 2nights liked the room, clean, cozy, and comfortable bed. Nice veiw of the marina and sea wall walk across the street😁 only downside is you can hear footsteps from above. Ask for an upstsirs unit and you will have no complaints.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Beds were great, check-in at the pub next door was easy and staff were great. The location is right across from ferries to Alert Bay and Sointula. The downsides: bathroom smelled musty but was otherwise clean. Not much curb appeal.

The hairdryer and the bathroom fan didnt work.
The location was perfect for us, veey walkable. Gus' Pub next door was great for dinner and Mugs 2.0 coffee shop was great for morning coffee and breakfast stuff. Best Cinnamon Bun Ever. Would stay here again.
We liked the closeness to town. Check in at the pub next door was fine, and the people were very nice. Unfortunately, the mattress in one bed was very worn out and uncomfortable. There were items left under the bed from previous guests that were gross. The room was listed as "marina view," but since it was on the ground floor, the parked cars mostly blocked it. The price for the room was high for what was given.
Check-in is at the pub across the driveway. It took 15 minutes for someone to assist me due to the staff busy with pub customers. Room was missing a kettle to make tea that was offered. No air conditioning or fans and it was extremely warm in the room even though it was in the mid-teens outside. 2nd night had to leave the door open for 1 hour to cool off the room. Room was clean and comfortable. Great view of the harbour from the common balcony.
