Property doesn’t look like the listing, pictures are from many years ago (ie beach is half the size as pictured). Doesn’t have as many pools as listed. Dinners require formal attire (who brings pants on vacation to Mexico). Due to this buffet is only option. Food was decent but repetitive. Staff was awesome, really tried to make everything awesome. Area and excursions were great!

The property is nicely located but the food at this resort is so bad. I assume that is why it is so much cheaper than other resorts. I was sick several times after eating. The fish, shrimp, and meat are so overcooked that they are mealy. The food is the lowest quality and overly salted. I got to the point where I ate nothing but rolls, granola, packaged yogurt and some fruit. The desserts are indescribably bad across the board. The place could benefit from some guidance from knowledgeable chefs and pastry chefs. While the setting is lovely it’s like a cheesy beach party much of the time at the pool and beach with loud announcers conducting competitions and music pounding. Forget relaxing to the beautiful sunset; the loud staff is always trying to stir up the crowd. Overall service is slow and the place would benefit from some updated online services so guests didn’t have to go to the main building everytime they wanted to make a dinner reservation. Overall the nightly entertainment is amateur. The restaurants blare awful jazz and the noise in the buffet is unbearable with plates and cutlery being loudly stacked. It’s really too bad how cheesy the whole experience is because the grounds and water are beautiful. I gave this place two chances because of its proximity to beautiful diving and onsite dive shop, but the place is anything but relaxing and no discount is worth being sick from food.

First of all the Occidental was closed for repair, We were notified that we would be staying at the sister resort, Allegro. We had stayed at the Allegro before a few years back. The service was not what it used to be, We would ask for something such as wash cloths, diet Pepsi and be promised that someone would bring them out. Two days later we finally got them . Waiters gave us poor service, Some times we were not ask if we needed anything, like water or coffee.

First of all the occidental was shut down for repairs they called Me and asked if I wanted to reschedule my vacation about three weeks before hand excuse me I made these reservations back in March and planned this trip around my whole life and they want me to change at the last minute or they would move me to the Allegra. Their sister motel supposed to be in a five star I would give it zero stars very little unless she was a scuba diver or that was about all you could do. The beach was very little. The food was very low quality except for one night also during each time you would eat lunch or supper in one of the places they had the raccoons would invade the café, they even got on our table and ate in our plate every day there was raccoons by the pool and the restaurant, digging trash out of the trashcan and running around very nasty. Who knows what diseases they carried. This will be one place. I will never go again.

Property did not communicate that they were closing during our stay. Found out that from other guests and had to go ask about it. Only one dining option multiple evenings. Only one bar multiple days. Severely understaffed. They should have notified us in advance and given us the option to change our booking to their sister property-which we were moved to. Totally shady way of doing business.

We totally enjoyed our stay. The property was beautiful, the rooms were great, and staff bent over backwards for you. There were some issues the last day and a half. There was little to no communication about it, so it could have been handled in the best possible manner, but I don't know. Something broke in the water system very early Wednesday morning and there was no running water until evening, and then only cold until we left on Thursday. They also seemed short staffed and short on water bottles Thursday, so I don't know what happened.
