My wife and I enjoyed the beach, it was our favorite part of the trip. The staff were very nice and helpful. The restaurant were nice but overall limited in what they served. They buffet was good but after a few days the food was all the same. Our room, was ok. It had no hot water. The hot water was luke warm at best. And the water pressure was very weak. As far as entertainment, it was lacking at night. I will admit we were bored after eating and nothing to do on certain nights. The wildlife, they were annoying. One day they attacked my wife's plate of food. Not happy about that. Overall the beach was amazing and relaxing asnwell as the pool area. Its what we needed a nice getaway. The staff were great. Helped us with taxi service into the city. I do wish the overall resort was bigger with more to do.

We went to the Catalonia Maroma hotel from October 27 to November 1. We booked a VIP room with a sea view and pool, for which we paid a considerable amount of money. But when we arrived they were on the third floor and it was inconvenient not to have an elevator. The hotel offered us a single room without considering what we had paid. They say that Expedia is the one that should reward us, but I think they did not make an effort to find a room equivalent to the price.

Everything is great; my only concern is that the AC only goes down to 22°C, and some days it feels hotter than others. Otherwise, everything is wonderful, and the staff is great.

We love this resort mainly for the beach. No rocks anywhere. Pool was great, room was great. Most of the food was great. It's a quiet resort which is fine as we mostly relax. Swim up bar...... Also great. Watch out for the coati's, guard your food if eating outside or they'll take anything they want!

This is my second stay at Catalonia Playa Maroma. The first stay was in a Privileged Superior room which gives you the option of having 2 large beds but is not fully updated, just refreshed (bathroom and floors are still old). This time we stayed in a Privileged Suite. On Expedia it says you can get King bed or 2 double, that is not true. Because it's a suite, it doesn't have room for two double bed. There is the bedroom section with a kind bed and the "living room" area with a pullout sofa. For our two kids, 4 and 6, the sofa was adequate. If you have 2 teens, that pullout sofa will be uncomfortable and you're better off selecting a Privileged Superior room. Being Privileged puts you in Buildings 5 or 6 closest to the pool/beach/specialty restaurants and access to Bloved restaurant. Pro: For the money, this resort has everything you need. Big buffet, good specialty restaurants especially Italian and Steakhouse. Bloved- this time the food was disappointing, however, last stay it was delicious. Hibachi is standard, the apps are really small and the dessert is odd, but the showmanship was great! THE STAFF AT THE RESORT IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. Everyone was helpful, kind, attentive. Beautiful beach with NO ROCKS and absolutely gorgeous well-maintained grounds. Cons: Even the renovated suite bathroom has mold. Coatis steal your food/drinks the second you put it down. Pool has loud music all day so couldn't nap in Building 6. No evator so if mobility issues ask for 1st floor.

We absolutely loved this hotel. The property is beautiful, we loved seeing all the animals. Our room was clean and the housekeepers always did a great job. The pools were nice/clean and we never had issues with finding chairs. Our favorite thing was the beach. It was STUNNING, so so beautiful. The sand was soft and calm, crystal clear water. The staff was great, very accommodating, especially with helping use find food options for our child with autism. All the staff was friendly and welcoming. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Second time here, surprisingly more children in mid September than Xmas break which was not my thing. Love Maroma beach, but next time will be going adults only. When dining parents babysit their kids with videos on an iPad with the volume turned up so high that it can be heard from the other end of the restaurant over the restaurant music and it disrupts the dining experience for everyone around them and the managers will not do anything to address the disturbance, or to turn the volume down, that is a problem. I understand a resort being family, friendly, but it shouldn’t be family friendly at the exclusion of the enjoyment of all other patrons. Additionally, there was a woman who was smoking perpetually at the pool and the hotel security spoke with her repeatedly, but did nothing to remove her. She argued that she paid “x” dollars to be there and she was damn well going to smoke if she wanted to. Security and management did not handle this well at all, they did nothing to reinforce their policies.

The staff were excellent. The first day we didn’t get a room assigned to us properly so that was a hassle but worse were little raccoon things running around. One of the members of trip got bit by one and needed rabies shot!!! She was only carrying coffee when it attacked her and another group member got attacked while trying to eat!! We had to eat in the pool or inside to avoid them it was quite scary and none of the other resorts near us had as many of them roaming around. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you have children because of the animals. Other than that it was a nice property and the food was fantastic. I had no problems booking at any of the restaurants.

The staff was very friendly. The food was good. Customer service was a little off and confusing. I was attacked on my last day by one of those critters when I was trying to have my coffee outside the coffee bar and bitten now I need to go get stitches and rabies shot I will never be returning, the time I was there, you could never sit down and enjoy anything outside food or drink wise those animals they are out of control

Cons first about the property: air conditioning unit in the rooms, not the greatest, rooms could use a renovation, slightly old and dinged up. You can never get a wash cloth unless it’s an act of God. We even tipped our maid $10 per day and still couldn’t get wash clothes. Room refrigerator kept items at about 60°. They definitely need new refrigerators. Property alcohol is definitely not namebrand. They for sure refill bottles with whatever. Shower super bad design and lets water out of shower. Roof leaks in various spots in the main lobby. They definitely need a new roof. Food trucks by pool are just stupid. Open up the Mexican restaurant and serve Mexican food there instead of crêpes. Just let people get tacos during the day from a taco bar. The only way you can get food during the day of any quality is to walk all the way back to the main lobby and go to the buffet. And people need to stop feeding the animals because they are a nuisance, cute, but very annoying. At another resort called Occidental Xcarete they never feed the animals and they don’t have any issues. The staff needs to stress this to people like they do at Occidental. Pros: Staff is great in all ways. Food was very good, no complaints. Pool was good, beach is really awesome in every way. The pool on the beach made everything really fun. Would I go back? Probably not because the property needs to be updated. But if you really like the beach in the pool, it’s definitely a great resort for that.

We chose this property to have our wedding ceremony. We had never been to Catalonia before but after viewing videos and reading reviews, we took a chance. The weddings department was outstanding!! Alejandrina was VERY responsive, patient and kind. On the day of our ceremony everything went off without a glitch. She took care of it all, was very professional as well as Veronica from weddings. Helpful, calm, professional and did everything to make it perfect!! Our photographer Lilo from Romanza was great. He had good energy and got tons of pictures for us! The wait staff at Catalonia were great! Kind and helpful. From the buffet to the different restaurants we were treated kindly and warmly by them. From the buffet, Alberto, Rafael, Monserrat and Edgar always greeted us with smiles, sat us quickly and were on top of drinks and clearing the tables. From The Grill - chef Fernando make delicious food, Manuel, Jesus, El Capitan and Yonathan (who served us on the night of our ceremony) were great also! From Adelitas - Isabel and Arely gave great service with smiles, quickness and laughter. From the lobby bar area we really clicked with Cresencia - she was sweet warm funny and very attentive. Jacquline from front desk was helpful for many issues. Now here's the down side and why we give few stars....This resort is just OK - for the rest find our G review and T advisor. Not enough space here to finish.
