The AC in the room was not working. I saw cockroach going from the restroom into the wooden door support. Italian restaurant was terrible. I stayed at 3408 and it was too noisy in the morning and afternoon (swimming pool music), so we couldn't really rest.

Riu Tequila is a beautiful property with a beautiful beach within walking distance. The employees work hard to keep it clean and provide entertainment. Some of the food was delicious, some was a little disappointing, notably the hamburgers from Pepe’s Foods. I miss the more broadway-like shows they used to have and could take a pass on the dance nights like Neon Night. Overall, with the aforementioned exceptions, an excellent time.

I have stayed at a Riu in the past and had a great experience, and this was the same case. There were just a few things that I wasn’t the biggest fan of. The first is how difficult it was the get the temperature right in the shower, next is there was no shampoo and conditioner, only a hair and body wash combo. We were not the biggest fans of the specialty restaurants but loved the buffet!! Overall we had a great time, just a few things I wish I know about prior to going!

Initially we were really bothered that the hotel/resort was NOT on the beach. When I inquired this with staff, they acknowledged they use photos from their sister resort for their website. EXTREMELY disappointed. Tried to communicate w Travelocity and nothing was resolved. It was a 8-9 minute walk to the beach everyday. RIU Tequila itself was nice/average. Staff was wonderful and there was entertainment at RIU Tequila. Downside was the bathroom in the rooms did not have a door which meant I would have to leave the room for my teenage kids to shower and they had to do the same. Not very accommodating at all.

We were supposed to stay at Riu Tequila. But when we checked in, they informed us we were staying at Riu Yucatan. It ended up being a blessing as the room was SO MUCH CLOSER to the beach/pools/bars/etc. The rooms were so-so but were fine. We had a 2-adjoining room set-up for us and our teens, so that was nice. Service and staff was great. Much better than another resort we stayed at last year down the road in Playacar. This was a very cost-efficient trip to Playa Del Carmen. Averaged to be about $200 per person/per day. And that got you unlimited drinks, snacks, meals, and a beautiful beach with tons of activities! Well worth it!

Amazing property and lots of activities both in property and off. Staff is extremely accommodating for needs and assistance- from calling a cab to helping you get in contact with excursion folks for all your activity needs! Several onsite restaurants for different food wants- all inclusive so drinks and restaurants are free (obviously)! Lots of pools - even a swim up bar for the adults! We don’t have kids but if you do, this is a great spot for families! Short 10 min walk to the beach through a private walkway on the RIU property - but they also have a shuttle that comes every 5-10 min if you need a lift! They also have a restaurant/pools at the beach that’s included!

Food quality and selection was poor. 3 out of the 4 restaurants were buffets, serving all similar foods. Steak house was good. Rooms are not quiet at all, can hear everything and everyone around you. For the most part, the service was good. Until I checked out, the gentleman helping seemed lazy and aloof. Didn’t seem willing to help.

This is the worst resort I have ever been in. the room smelled like mold even though it seemed clean, the food at the buffet was absolutey disgusting. my sn had diarreah for 4 days after eating there. the hotel is old and extremely outdated even though the reviews said different, those were clearly lies. the workers seemed miserable only a few of them were smiling and helpful. i had a terrible time, i will never stay at another riu again. theres a reason why they are affordable, i rather spend more money and have a better experience. lesson learned. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME AT THESE RESORTS. ALSO the alcohol was the cheapest most disgusting brand that i have never heard of so i couldnt even get drunk !!!!
